MISSOURI PILOTS ASSOCIATION
SOUTH CENTRAL CHAPTER No.20

Minutes of Meeting May, 20  2010
  EAA Chapter 1218 Hanger,
Willow Springs, MO

President Jerry Pfister led the Pledge of Allegiance, after a prayer by Mike Vaughn and a pot luck supper. Fifteen members and three guests were at the meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 20 in the EAA Hangar in Willow Springs, MO. Guests were Paul Allen from Arizona, Adam Martin from West Plains, and Mike's brother Jeff. Paul is a pilot, and Adam wants to be.

Minutes of the April meeting were approved as published, Sharon Vaughn motion, Floyd Deidiker second. (Thanks, Phyllis White for taking the minutes at the Poker Run meeting; Henny was at Sun 'n Fun).

Howard Wolford gave the treasurer's report; approved after motion by Mike Vaughn, second Sharon Vaughn.

Membership report by Ray Fine; as of April 7, 68 total; 48 dual and 20 single.

Wings report by Ray Fine; we had eleven completions. There were 96 seminar completions, a great number, but the Wings number was down a little from 09, even though our chapter won the state prize in 2009. Ray reminded everyone that the program has started again for the
2010-2011 year, so he encouraged aviators to get going. The FAA web site has a new look and is simpler to navigate for online seminars and keeping track of progress.

Jerry passed out a flyer about the State MPA Convention on June 11 and 12 at the Doubletree Hotel in Springfield, MO. Registration is $115 for the events. Contact Cinda Rodgers, 5018 S. Rochelle Ct., Springfield, MO 65804.

Jerry also passed out a flyer from Ehrhardt Aviation Agency, which is offering a program available to the MPA chapters. The program would be more than a sales pitch, and would cover all aspects of what's available and what aviatiors might need. Ehrhardt Aviation Agency, LLC is at 1516 Lake Shore Dr., P.O. Box 526, Cuba, MO 65453. Tele 800-394-2062, or 573-677-0199. The flyer was a Fly Low Publications Business Spotlight article featuring Clyde Ehrhardt, independent agent with 35 years of professional flying and insurance service. Chapter officers could set up the program with Ehrhardt at a later date.

Election of Officers: Vice President Floyd Deidiker presented 24 sealed envelopes with the ballots that he received back from members who responded, 44 sent out. Henny distributed the envelopes to Marge Allen, Berlin Batesel, Sharon Vaughn, Pat Deidiker and Donna May to tally.

New officers are:
President and State Rep., Floyd Deidiker Vice President, Mike Vaughn Secretary, Henny Christensen Treasurer, Jerry Pfister Member at Large, Ray Fine Newsletter Editor, Floyd Deidiker Membership, Tom White Wings, Tom White possible

Before relinquishing his post as president, Jerry Pfister accepted a gift from Ray Fine.
Buried in a paper bag and well padded with bubble wrap was Jerry's long-lost hammer that he had used to conduct MPA meetings in 2009.
New president Floyd Deidiker took over the meeting, after accepting the real gavel from Jerry. Good job, Jerry, thanks for a good year as president of Chapter 20.

Floyd and Pat plan to attend the June State MPA Convention, as do Sharon and Mike Vaughn.

In new business: Floyd announced he will try this year to get more people involved in MPA.
Items discussed: the meeting day, with a trade-off of Saturday and Thursday meetings, and mostly pot luck; do a program at every meeting, time limited to keep the meetings shorter; an Adult Eagles program, free flights in conjunction with the Saturday mid-day meetings.

Clint Allen made a motion to have the June meeting on Saturday the 19th at the EAA hangar in Willow Springs. Howard Wolford seconded, and the motion passed for the one-time meeting day change. Ray Fine reminded eeryone that the by-laws would have to be amended for a permanent day-of-the-week change.

Clint Allen made a motion to have the chapter get verbal agreements from airport managers at Mtn. Grove, Mtn. View, Willow Springs, West Plains and Houston to hold Chapter 20 meetings at those airports, and to make efforts to fly in to them. Henny Christensen seconded, motion passed. Henny gave an affirmative verbal agreement from Mtn. Grove manager Lloyd Darter. Mike Vaughn remembered that several years ago, (probably when the hangar was being built) that the MPA had loaned money to the EAA. EAA offered to repay it, but MPA refused and it became a gift. The EAA Chapter has no objections to MPA using the hangar for its meetings, and we are reminded that there is a donation jar to help cover utility costs.

In other business:
Hospitality report by Pat Deidiker; we need to start planning in July, for Christmas Party, to have enough time to book the room at Hillbilly Village, if that's what we plan to do.
Fly-out chairman; Bob Brantley (not at the meeting). Update: Janet reports that Bob's doing well; released from hospital on the 19th.
Fly-out Chairman; Bob Brantley
Wings; Tom White possibly
Publicity; Henny Christensen
Webmaster; Rick Rocuant possibly (not a current member any more, but willing to keep the job, he's in Nebraska), or Larry Conner possibly (Floyd to contact).
Programs; Mike Vaughn as VP. At state level, Jo Ann Johnson has list at http://mopilots.org/Speakers.htm of programs available.

Clint Allen comment; "What we have been talking about (revitalizing the chapter) is based on the fact that the past people of the MPA have been doing a tremendous job, but the climate has changed and we have to put a renewed effort it it. We are very grateful to those people who did all they could in the past, they've dona a good job. But the climate has changed". Floyd Deidiker, "That it has. The ecomony's part of it, loss of interest is part of it".

Floyd Deidiker comment; "One of our past presidents said, EAA provides services for experimental aircraft. MPA provides the political side of aviation to keep us flying".
Mike Vaughn comment; "AOPA Magazine's John Yodice (legal counsel for AOPA) provides a source of information for MPA, discussing the Privacy Act of 1974". RE, the case of the State of CA illegally getting personal information from the FAA databases. (Article on page 38, May 2010 issue AOPA Pilot Magazine).

Mike Vaughn made a motion that volunteer pilots participate in Mtn. View's July 3 festival. Mike received a request for "fly-over" and  "fly-in" types of activities at Mtn.
View's 150 year celebration. Clint Allen second, motion passed. Further plans will be made at the June 19 MPA meeting. The third request of dropping styrofoam balls containing prizes over the city was soundly vetoed.

Floyd reported that the status of his airplane sales tax situation is still in limbo, involving a lien on personal property placed by the Dept. of Revenue, and correspondence with Chuck Perguson's office.

West Plains Airport will celebrate its 25th anniversary on June 26. It will become West Plains Regional Airport.

Other business; Ray still has MPA caps for sale. 50/50 winners were Berlin Batesel, Jerry Pfister and Donna May.
Motion to adjourn; Sharon Vaughn, Berlin Batesel second.
